Private Moses S. Stroup Company K, 22nd NC Regiment

Private Moses S. Stroup was born August 1839 in North Carolina. His parents were Joseph P. Stroup and Lucy Ann Faulkner. Moses was 21 years of age when he volunteered for service on 5 June 1861. He entered into the Confederate Army in McDowell County, NC and was assigned to Company K, of the 22nd Regiment.

Moses service records state that he was wounded on his left ankle at or near Milford Station, Virginia on 20 May 1863. Private Stroupe was later captured on 23 May 1864 near North Anna River, Hanover Junction County, Virginia and taken to Point Lookout Prison in Maryland.

Private Moses S. Stroup survived the war and died February 1914. he is buried at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Old Fort, McDowell County North Carolina, CSA. He is my 4th great grand uncle.
