Alexander L. Helms B company (Union farmers) 43 Regiment North Carolina Infantry

Alexander L. Helms is my 1st cousin 5x removed. He is the son of Uriah and Eunice Matilda Helms. He enlisted on 17 February 1862 and mustered into service by Col. R.C. Hill at Camp Mangum on 2 April 1862. He is listed as being 21 years of age and a farmer by trade at the time of his enlistment.

Alexander was assigned to B company (Union farmers) 43 Regiment North Carolina Infantry. His service records indicate that he was admitted to General Hospital number 9 in Richmond Virginia on 1 June 1864 and received treatment for Vulnus Sclopet (gunshot wound). He died on 10 June 1864 from wounds that he received on 30 May 1864, he was most likely involved at the Battle of Bethesda Church when he was shot.
