1st Lieutenant Joseph A Camp 34th North Carolina Infantry Regiment


Joseph A Camp of Cleveland County, North Carolina was born on 13 Feb 1841. He worked as a a Farmer before enlisting in the Confederate Army. Joseph  enlisted at the age of 21 on 10 Jan 1861. He was commissioned as an officer in Company H of the 34th North Carolina Infantry Regiment on 25 Oct 1861 and was Promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant on 10 Feb 1863.

Joseph was Wounded at Richmond, VA on unknown date. Placed on Confederate roll of honor for heroism. Captured at Funkstown, MD on 12 Jul 1863. Confined at Fort McHenry, MD on 21 Aug 1863.Transferred to Johnson Island on 28 Oct 1863 and released 11 Jun 1865.

Joseph is the son of Joseph Alexander Camp and Lucretia "Crecy" Taylor. He married Ellen Moseline Roberts. Lieutenant Joseph A Camp died on 12 Oct 1923 and is buried at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Grover, Cleveland County North Carolina. He is my 1st cousin 6x removed.
