William "Billy" Plemmons
William
"Billy" Plemmons was born during the year of 1843 in North Carolina. He
is the son of Andrew Jackson and Elizabeth Plemmons. Billy was a
farmer before enlisting in the city of Marshall in Madison County NC on
5 April 1862. He was assigned to B Company of the 60th North Carolina
Infantry Regiment CSA.
Billy was listed as missing in action
after the Battle of Murfreesboro on 2 Jan 1863, he was captured by the
enemy during the battle. His name appears on a roll of prisoners of war
who were paroled at Camp Douglas ILL. on 30 March 1863. After returning
to his unit, Private Plemmons was wounded during The Battle of
Missionary Ridge and was sent home on furlough .
His service
records from may- June of 1864 show that he was sent to the hospital by a
surgeon for an unknown reason. Private William "Billy" Plemmons died of
disease at a Hospital in Montgomery, AL. He is my 2nd cousin 4x
removed.
