Daniel Matthew Stroup Co. F, 34th North Carolina Infantry Regiment

Flag of the 34th North Carolina Infantry Regiment. My 3rd cousin 4x removed, Daniel Matthew Stroup was born 20 February 1844 in Lincoln County,North Carolina. He is the son on Christopher Goodson Stroup and Elizabeth Hallmon. Daniel Matthew Stroup mustered into the Confederate Army as a Private on 25 October 1861 at Camp Fisher. He was assigned to Co. F, 34th North Carolina Infantry Regiment (AKA The Floyd Rifles) . Daniel was an 18 year old farmer at the time of his enlistment. Private Daniel Matthew Stroup passed away on 5 July 1862 in Richmond Virginia from wounds received at the Battle of Gaines Mill. His father Christopher Goodson Stroup collected a $98.05 settlement for his son's life. Private Daniel Matthew Stroup is buried at Gaines Mills Battlefield Hanover County Virginia.
