Today we celebrate the birth of our legendary Southern hero! General Robert E. Lee was born January 19, 1807 at Stratford Hall, Virginia.
Robert E Lee was appointed from the state of Virginia, as a Cadet, U.S. Military Academy, 1 July 1825, was graduated and commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, Corps of Engineers, 1 July 1829; promoted to 1st lieutenant, 21 September 1836; to Captain 7 July 1838; Brevet Major 18 April 1847; Lieutenant Colonel , 2nd Calvary, 3 March 1855; Colonel, 1st Calvary, 16 March 1861 and resigned 25 April 1861.
Robert E. Lee was appointed Brigadier General of the Confederate States Army on 14 May 1861; promoted to General 14 June 1861 and surrendered 9 April 1865 at Appomattox Court House, Virginia.
