My 4th great grand uncle Manoah Helms was born on 11 July 1822 in NC, his parents are Joel Helms (1794 – 1862) and Sarah Pyron (1796 – 1890). Monah married Caroline "Colen" Mullis (1823 – 1900) in 1847.
He was conscripted as a Private on 16 September 1863 at the age of 41 in Company D of McRae's NC Cavalry Battalion. Manoah transferred out of McRae's Battalion on 15 May 1864 and was assigned to I Company of the 1st North Carolina Cavalry Regiment (also known as the 9th Regiment N. C. State Troops) on 15 Jun 1864.
Private Manoah Helms passed away on the 24th of September in the year 1900 at Union county North Carolina. He is buried at Crooked Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
