James Mack Messer


My 4th great granduncle, James Mack Messer age 22, enlisted at Sherman, Texas along with his older brother Patten, with the 22nd Texas Cavalry CSA. Pvt. Messer is listed as a bugler. He was wounded in Louisiana and carried from the field of battle by Patten. He served until the end of the war and was mustered out in June 1865 at Milliken, Texas. He was described as having light hair and hazel eyes.

Applied and approved for soldier of the Confederacy pension at age 75. His occupation was listed as farmer and physical condition as bad.
