Private Alexander L Helms Company B (the Union Farmers) of the 43rd North Carolina Infantry.

Alexander L Helms was born in Union County, NC, he is the son of Uriah and Eunice Matilda Helms.Before the war, he made his living as a farmer. On 2 April 1862, 21 year old Alexander L Helms Mustered into the Confederate Army at Camp Mangum, NC as a private. He was assigned to Company B (the Union Farmers) of the 43rd North Carolina Infantry. Private Alexander L Helms died on the 11th day of June 1864 at Richmond, VA of gunshot wounds that he received on 30 May 1864. His father Uriah filed a claim for settlement on 10 September 1864. Alexander is buried at Hollywood Cemetery Richmond Virginia, in the Soldiers Section U Lot: 541. He is my 1st cousin 5x removed on my mother's side.
