Private Philip R Stroup CSA

Philip
R Stroup was born on 8, May, 1831 in Lincoln County, NC. His parents
were John D. Stroup and Susannah Rudisill. He was a farmer before the
war. The census of 1860 shows that he lived with his parents near the
Stanley Creek Post Office. He married Nancy Jane McClure on 12, Oct,
1860. They had at least one child, her name was Frances Ann Fannie
Stroup, she was born in 1862.
Philip was 31 years old when he
enlisted as a private on 4, July, 1862, in Lincolnton, NC. He was
assigned to Company G of the 57th Regiment under the command of Captain
Speck. On 8 November 1862 Philip was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #2
in Richmond, Virginia. Private Philip Stroup died in the hospital of
Typhoid Fever on 13 November 1862.
Philip's body and his
personal affects which included $91.70 were claimed by his widow on 18,
March, 1863. She brought him home and buried Philip alongside his sister
Laura Malinda and his niece L Malinda Stroup in the Philip Stroup
Cemetery.
He is my 3rd cousin 4x removed.
