Corporal William Pinkney Dellinger

William Pinkney Dellinger was born in North Carolina on 6, August, 1838. He was the son of Jacob Dellinger and Sarah "Sallie" Setzer.

William Pinkney Dellinger enlisted as a Private in Co. F, 23rd Regiment, NC Infantry, CSA on 6, June, 1861 in Newton NC. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal on 1, March, 1863. Corporal Dellinger was reported as missing in action after the battle of Gettysburg on 1, July, 1863, he was captured by the enemy and taken as a pow. William's name appears on a roster of POW's confined at Fort McHenry MD on 5 July 1863, he was later sent to Fort Delaware. Corporal Dellinger was transferred to Point Lookout MD on 18, October, 1863, he was exchanged on 18, Feb, 1865.

Paul Dellinger states that "William fought in both battles of Bull Run and was wounded at Richmond, VA. Wounded during the battle at Gettysburg."

William married Anna Mary Anthony on the 13th of December in 1870. Corporal William Pinkney Dellinger died on 6, October, 1910 in Catawba County, North Carolina, he was 72. His body is interred at Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
