George William Clodfelter Company K (Catawba Braves), 46th REGIMENT, N.C. TROOPS

My 4th Great Grandfather is George William Clodfelter. He was born about 1844 in North Carolina. George's wife Eliza Jane Evans was part Cherokee Indian. George had brown hair and hazel eyes. He was listed as being 5'7" and 1/4 inches tall. His occupation is listed as farmer before the war broke out.

George resided in Catawba County. He enlisted at Camp Vance, NC at the age of 18 on September 25, 1862, for the duration of the war. He was enlisted by Capt. Mcreal and joined as a private in Company K (Catawba Braves), 46th REGIMENT, N.C. TROOPS

Private Clodfelter was wounded at the battle of the Wilderness, Virginia, on May 5, 1864. He was admitted to Winder hospital on 9 May 1864 and treated for his wounds .

Muster Rolls for the period of July-Aug 1864 show Private Clodfelter absent from duty and on furlough for 60 days. He was sent to Newton NC from Winder Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, due to illness. He rejoined his unit on 11 Nov 1864.

George William Clodfelter was Taken prisoner of war near Petersburg on 25 March, 1865. He was taken to Point Lookout Prison on 28 March, 1865. He was released after taking the oath of allegiance on 24 June 1865.

George William Clodfelter passed away on 2 Jun 1915, at the State Hospital in Morganton NC. His cause of death is listed as senility. Private Clodfelter's name appears on the Roll of Honour for Company K, 46th REGIMENT, N.C. TROOPS.
