Tonight's Revolutionary War post is a relative from my father's side, Swearingen,Teague, Snelson, Plemmons, Dean.

My 1st cousin 9x removed Joseph Swearingen was born 7-10-1754 in Frederick County Virginia. His pension application states "Joseph Swearingen entered into the service of the United States in the year 1775, as aforesaid in the Company commanded by Captain Hugh Stephenson, for one year, which Term he served. After which in the latter end of the year 1776, he was appointed a Lieutenant in the 12th Virginia Regiment, and continued in service (having been promoted to the Rank of Captain) until the final Discharge of the Army on the 15th day of November 1783." He was taken prisoner at Charleston SC on 12 May 1780 and remained a prisoner till the end of the Revolutionary War.
Captain Swearingen is the son of Thomas and Sarah Swearingen. He married Hannah Rutherford in 1783. Captain Joseph Swearingen passed away on 9 August 1821 and is buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Shepherdstown, Jefferson County, West Virginia.
