In anticipation of the upcoming 4th of July celebrations, I will be frequently posting about ancestors who fought in the American Revolution.
My 7th great Grandfather on my (Dean/Plemmons) father's side, Private Adam Stroup, Hall’s Co., 9th Regiment, N. C. Lincoln County Militia Regiment NC.
Adam served as a Private under Capt. William Armstrong and Lt. Col. Henry "Hal" Dixon (a Continental officer). In 1781, he volunteered as a Private under Capt. Peter Forney and Col. Joseph Dickson. Private Stroup also served under General Gates, Gen.Rutherford, General Richard Caswell, Colonel Isaacs and Colonel Ledbetter.
Engagements; Little Lynches Creek on August 11, 1780 SC , The Battle of Camden on August 16, 1780 in SC (Gates defeat).
